Samurai Jack - Aku’s Fairy Tales (Season 1 Episode 13)
Did I ever tell you how incredible Samurai Jack is? I didn’t?
And it’s super early in the morning and I can’t sleep and my dash is dead and I have nothing better to do than justify my love for a cartoon that was cancelled over a decade ago with multiple paragraphs? Basically, Jack (isn’t his real name, I don’t know why they never tell us his actual name but whatever) is the perfect person. Think about it. The only flaw I can even think of is (sitting at my computer for ten minutes thinking…) Yeah I can’t even think of anything. He’s a samurai. He’s the ultimate warrior. He’s god a sword forged by the head gods of not one or two but three religions: Odin, Ra, and Vishnu. He’sbasicallyunstoppable. He’s also a bro. I have seen every episode and I haven’t once seen him act rudely at all. Discounting the time Aku conjured up Anti!Jack in which case it wasn’t Jack being rude it was his dark side incarnate. He destroyed him with just his mind btw. If he wasn’t walking the lonely Earth in search of means of vanquishing the ultimate evil, he could be a poet, or an artist, or a doctor, or a teacher, or whatever the hell he wanted because Jack has got it all. Even his hair is better than you. Look at the way it flows in the heat of battle. L’Oreal, you’ve got yourself a spokesman. He takes care of kids, of old people, of fucking dogs. The very first episode- it was him battling this army of battle drones because they were going to fuck up some dogs. The show’s antagonists are usually robots, otherwise it would be censored for violence. So he’s standing there, dripping in the blood of his enemies (oil I guess) atop a mountain of mutilated corpses, smoke rising from the shattered bodies, sword in hand, staring off into the horizon. Another thing I love about the show is that it’s not just a cut em up, save the day sort of plot. It goes deeper. Jack here is the classic example of Amor Fati. We don’t know his religion or faith but it obviously has a strong impact with him. You see it in everything. 99% of episodes begin with him, just walking, enjoying the beautiful scenery. Appreciating life. I guess I’ll come to my point right here: Samurai Jack. is. better. than. you. He’s the embodiment of the hero archetype. Unfailingly stoic, a (not fearless) brave son of a bitch, a family man, selfless, determined, morally superior, and every other positive adjective you can think of.I don’t even know what else to add.
